Mountain Apple Medicine is a Hawaiian infused, naturally focused, integrative medicine clinic born to support our extended o’hana by enhancing and extending vitality (Ola Loa) throughout life. We aspire to increase both your ‘lifespan’ and your ‘healthspan’. With over 50 years of combined experience in various aspects of creating, administering and providing care in the medical profession, Dr. Sally Daughtrey and husband Don Daughtrey have taken that experience and distilled out the essence. They have created the clinic THEY would want to go to if they were sick. The clinic has evolved and grown through several stages and grown from the small Vitality Natural Medicine Clinic to today’s Mountain Apple Medicine serving our local extended o’hana.
Let’s face it. Medical care in America has reached a crisis state. Confidence in the conventional medical community system after the Covid 19 challenge has reached an all time low, while people feel more stressed and less well than ever. In the face of continued automation, voice mail labyrinths and the mind numbing screen time of social distancing, there is a yearning for individualized and personal health care. We all want care that refuses to yield to the tediousness of the electronic medical record and the arbitrary limitations of the health insurance system. People want their physician to care for them, not to focus on their chart on a screen. People want the clinic staff to have the time to make sure their needs are met. That is what Mountain Apple Medicine is designed to provide.
Science inspired, intuitively applied. MAM strives to integrate the best of traditional Naturopathic medicine with the best of modern medical research and treatment. We do not just consider or judge a treatment by whether it is ‘natural’ or not, we choose what works best for the individual and conforms with our guiding philosophy of care, the principles of Naturopathic Medicine. This attitude leaves us open minded and able to curate the best overall package of care for the individual.
The profession of medicine has suffered greatly from the ongoing industrialization, homogenization, depersonalization and standardization of our entire culture. While western medicine does have many useful technological marvels and provides effective urgent care and ‘sick care,’ we need more than that to thrive. When it comes to prevention of illness and health optimization, most people who come to Dr. Sally have found that the current medical system is not addressing their needs or stopping their symptoms despite significant financial and time commitment on their part. At Mountain Apple Medicine we strive to be an antidote to today’s toxic medical culture. Dr. Daughtrey’s goal is not just to ‘fix you’ when you are sick, but also to help you discover how to make and keep yourself healthy and happy as you navigate the health challenges of today’s world.
Traditionally, healing in most cultures involved a connection with a healer and an in depth exploration of the unique needs and specific qualities of the individual patient. This process takes both time and focus on the part of the physician and the patient. Expect several visits of about an hour each for your case to be understood and for a plan to come together, as well as check in visits as needed to keep you on track.
In addition there are immutable laws of the body that must be addressed in all people, including needs for nutrients, community, purpose, space, and care. While respecting individual abilities and needs, we know that in order to succeed, naturopathic patients need some willingness to respect and honor the laws of nature regarding sleep, nutrition, movement, connection and limitation or removal of toxic substances and influences. We do not offer a ‘pill per ill’ care strategy, although we do make use of prescription medications judiciously as needed. Our intention is to blend the best of traditional medical practices with the marvels of modern medicine to create the perfect care for you. We strive to apply care based on the principles of Naturopathic Medicine. These are:
RESPECT THE HEALING POWER OF NATURE (Vis Medicatrix Naturae)
FIRST DO NO HARM (Primum Non Nocere)
IDENTIFY AND TREAT THE CAUSE OF ILLNESS (Tolle Causam)
